EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI): ELDERS AND ELDER HELPERS FOR CORRECTIONAL SERVICE OF CANADA INSTITUTIONS IN THE PRAIRIES REGION PURPOSE OF THE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is asking Elders and Elder Helpers interested in providing Indigenous cultural support and guidance to offenders to contact the CSC Representative identified below. Ottawa, Ontario; office. Closes January 13, 2027. Good fit if you have office contract experience.
Key requirements
- Must be recognized by their Indigenous community as having knowledge and understanding of the community's traditional culture, including ceremonies, protocols, teachings and healing practices
- Must be recognized as an Elder or Elder Helper by Indigenous communities, other Elders, and their teachers
- Must have followed a traditional way of life consistent with the teachings of their community's Elders and healers over a significant period
- Must be willing to work within a federal correctional institution environment subject to security requirements and controlled movement protocols
Special conditions
- Work is performed inside federal correctional institutions with various security levels
- Must comply with CSC security requirements and controlled movement policies
- Must adhere to CSC policy and guidelines developed to support cultural practices and ceremonies within institutions
- Elder Helpers may be required to perform ceremonies and provide counselling in the Elder's absence
- Elders may be required to escort offenders on Escorted Temporary Absences (ETAs) for ceremonial and spiritual purposes
