Questions

What is a GSIN code?

A GSIN (Goods and Services Identification Number) is the code the Government of Canada uses to classify what it buys. Each open tender on CanadaBuys carries one or more GSINs describing the goods or services sought. Suppliers use GSINs to register interest and to filter for the tenders relevant to them.

How is a GSIN code structured?

A GSIN begins with a letter that signals the category — for example S for services, N for goods (the federal supply-classification families), and D for construction and architecture/engineering. The digits that follow narrow it to a specific class. Cleaning and janitorial services, for instance, fall under the S2xx services groups.

How do I find government tenders for a GSIN?

Map the GSIN to the kind of work it describes, then look at the open tenders for that work. This page links each GSIN group we cover to its live, biddable open-tender feed on Wonable — so you go from a code straight to the contracts you can actually bid on today.

What's the difference between a GSIN and a NAICS code?

A GSIN classifies what the government is buying on a specific tender; a NAICS code classifies what your business does. They overlap but are not identical — a single NAICS supplier may bid across several GSINs. Wonable matches tenders to you on the underlying work, not on a single code.
